Competition Program

Tibor Junior 2022, August 26 to September 3

Each candidate will interpret a selection of pieces from the list below:

Preselection by video:

  • Paganini or Wieniawski: A caprice of your choice, with repeats, possibility to propose the caprice chosen for the 1st round – (5’)
  • Mozart, Beethoven or Schubert: The 1st mvt. of a Sonata or a Sonatina (5’)

or

  • Schubert: An excerpt from one of the two works proposed in the 2nd round (5’)

1st Round

  • Vivaldi: One of the Four Seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter (9-10’)
  • Paganini, Schumann: One of the following Caprices: N° 9, 11, 13, 21 or 24 (3-4’) (arr. for violin and orchestra by Andrei Pushkarev, based on the Paganini / Schumann version)
  • Pärt: Passacaglia for two Violins (will be performed with another candidate – the parts will be sent and announced on 15  May 2022) (4’30’’)

2nd Round

  • Schubert: Rondo for Violin & Strings in A Major, D 438 (14’)

or 

Violin Concert in D Major, D 345 (~10’) (arr. for string orchestra by Andrei Pushkarev)

  • Weinberg: Concertino for Violin and String Orchestra. Op. 42 (Only 1st OR 2nd OR 3rd mvt.) (5’30’’)
  • Brener : Danse Macabre for violin and chamber orchestra (Commissioned for the Tibor Junior Competition) (~5-8’)  (Score will be sent to the candidates by 15 May 2022)

FINAL

  • Bach : 2nd mvt of Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, BWV 1043 (played with a member of the jury, the candidate should prepare the part for first violin)
  • One piece with orchestra from the following:

Tchaikovsky: Valse-Scherzo Op.34, TH58

Paganini: La Campanella

Waxman: Carmen Fantasy

Saint-Saëns: Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso in A minor, Op.28

Sarasate: Zigeunerweisen Op.20

  • ENCORE: Solo Violin : Own choice work(s) different from the works performed in previous rounds (6-8′)
