Antonio Meneses

Brazil

Cello
Competition Juror

Born in 1957 in Brazil, Antonio Meneses began playing the cello at the age of ten. At 16, he was noticed by Antonio Janigro, then on tour in South America, who took him to Europe and taught him. In 1977, Meneses won the Munich Competition and, in 1982, the Gold Medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition. This was the beginning of a great career, in which chamber music would always play a major role. Cellist of the Beaux Arts Trio, and playing alongside great talents (Menahem Pressler, Maria Joao Pires…), an impressive discography echoes these collaborations.
